****UPDATE****
Hello everyone!

I leave this evening from Toronto and should arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania on Saturday evening. I begin the climb Tuesday morning and hope to summit next Sunday, August 14th if all goes as planned. I will update the website as soon as possible and post some fantastic pictures so that you can all live vicariously through me for a few moments. Although I have been warned of the potential dangers and challenges (the primary being altitude sickness), I am confident that I know the most important rules: do not pull the lion's tails, do not try to hug the crocodiles, and always inspect your sleeping bag for unwelcome guests!

This coming August I am flying to Arusha, Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro by myself. Over the course of eight days, I will hopefully reach the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak, 20,000 feet above sea level. I decided that it would be important to take this opportunity to raise money and bring awareness to a great cause. Although I have never before undertaken the challenge of fundraising, I am currently on my way to achieving my goal of raising $10,000 for Environmental Defence.

This fantastic environmental non-profit organization is working to make our homes, air, water and green spaces healthy, prosperous, and protected for future generations. Environmental Defence has been at the forefront of Canadian environmental organizations, working in climate change, air quality, water quality, land conservation, toxic cosmetic agents, and alternative energy solutions, among many other important environmental issues. They successfully led the charge to ban BPA in plastic baby bottles (a serious hormone disrupting chemical), were responsible for the creation of a 1.8 million acre greenbelt in Ontario, and worked with the Green Energy Act Alliance to get the groundbreaking Green Energy Act passed in Ontario, just to name a few of many noteworthy achievements.
