My Message
Steve skates for Alzheimer’s -- again; this time in all 10 provinces!

Steve McNeil skated outdoors for 19 hours and 26 minutes in the seven Canadian NHL cities last winter to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s Societies across Canada. He will be do it again in 2020, adding five more cities to his marathon skates, which will include all 10 provinces.

He will skate in Edmonton at the brand-new rink at Edmonton’s City Hall, starting at 12.01 a.m. on Monday, January 20, and skate until 7.26 p.m. that night – which is 19 hours and 26 minutes straight.

McNeil, 58, who is a recreational hockey referee in Etobicoke, Ontario, does it as a tribute to his mother who died of the disease and all the caregivers looking after loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. His mother Eunice was born in 1926, thus the connection.

He encourages everyone to join him for a short time and skate with him when the rink is open to the public. He asks people to donate $19.26 to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories.

The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories is committed to helping people with Alzheimer’s disease and providing support to their caregivers and families. We offer Help for Today through our programs and services and Hope for Tomorrow by funding research to find a CURE.
