My repeat participation in Tour For Kids is one of the highlights of my summer. Not only are the funds raised for such a worthy cause (cancer camps in Ontario – Camp Trillium, Camp Quality and Camp Oochigeas) but it's a challenging and difficult ordeal to cover 800km's over four days of riding.

This year, I will be riding in memory of my cousin Giuliana Donato, who passed away several years ago of Pancreatic Cancer. Not only was this devasting to me and my family, as we lost a first cousin, but she left behind two teenaged boys who now must rely on their father for sole support. Cancer affects not just the victims but the immediate family, and when children are involved it means the loss of a mother.

I am also working on a movie with a cycling theme, and the individual it is based on is Giuliana's father, my Uncle Benny (Biaggio). He cycled bravely over 1000 km's during World War 2 to get home, and it's my plan that a portion of proceeds from the film will be donated to the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation. At the same time that I decided to sign up for the 2009 ride, I learned of my Uncle's amazing cycling journey, and started to appreciate how difficult this would have been over 50 years ago. Tour for Kids will seem easy in comparison!

Please help me reach my fundraising goal and give these courageous children the opportunity to attend year ‘round camp programs. 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to these wonderful camps!
