To those that donated to the Tour for Kids in the past by sponsoring me as a rider, I am back! For those who are new to this charity, welcome! To the kids, new and those who cheered on riders in the 2008 and 2009 Sears National Kids Cancer rides, and the ambassadors, Hello!
I was born and raised in Ontario. Cycling has always been part of my life. I have many years of long rides under my legs, and a few years of finding time for short rides when my daughters were younger. I am a huge Pink Floyd fan. They have some great long ride songs that are 17 plus minutes long, which I find helpful when climbing the long hills! My past three holidays I spent riding in the Tour for Kids charity ride. It has been two years since my last holiday…it is time!
During my 2010 holiday I will ride my bike for 15 days, 200 – 250 km per day. Prior to the ride I will put in an effort to raise $25, 000.00+ for kids cancer charities across Canada and…pay my own entry/support fee to participate (all money donated goes to the kids cancer charities across Canada).
Yes, riding 200-250 km a day for 15 days sounds tough to do to me. But I love cycling! So, it can’t be that hard, is what I am thinking…positive thinking and a great support team (including a nutrition and training program, food, gear, massage therapy) all volunteers…sounds like a holiday to me!
I am thrilled to have the honour to ride with great people doing great things in the 2010 Sears National Kids Cancer ride (September 9 – 23, 2010).
The National Kids Cancer Ride will fund programs that improve the lives of children living with cancer as well as those recovering from the physical and emotional scars that can be part of survivorship. Beyond the children themselves, their families and friends benefit from on-going support programs provided for by the National Kids Cancer Ride.
At age 8 (1975) I was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a muscle tumor and was treated at Sick Kid’s hospital in Toronto. This is my way of giving back. If you would like the opportunity to support kids cancer charities across Canada, please sponsor me as a rider in the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride 2010.
