My Message
There are many challenges in life to face. Some we can avoid, some we choose to address head on and become better people for it, some challenges are thrust upon us with little or no warning and we must simply endure, and face the days to the best of our ability, cherishing each moment of happiness and serenity as if they were the last.
In recent years I have faced some hard truths about my own lifestyle, addressed them and changed my life and my outlook. A great part of this metamorphosis has been a desire to give back to society and be a part of something much bigger than myself. I felt a connection to the Ascent for Alzheimer’s and in my heart I felt this would be the “something” I was looking for. Alzheimers is so devastating and sad. Persons with Alzheimers gradually lose many of their mental faculties. Their families are forced to watch helplessly as their loved ones slowly and progressively descend into dementia, lost and confused. It could happen to any of us.
While there are so many charitable organizations that I could be a part of, some having touched me directly; breast cancer, testicular cancer, addictions, I feel moved by the Alzheimer Societies of B.C.'s purpose. The Alzheimer Society of B.C. raises hundreds of thousands each year for care, and research into this debilitating disease. To help alleviate some of the pain and stress for the families and to attempt to control or postpone some of the devastating effects for the patients.
My commitment to raise ten thousand dollars and climb Mnt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, at 19,340 feet the tallest freestanding mountain in the world, is my challenge to face. One I have chosen in the hopes I gain a broader perspective and appreciation of my own life. Any support you can give financially or otherwise is greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Joshua Fulford Kilimanjaro 2010 team
