Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to Becky's Team In Training home page!

I am training to participate in the 2009 Nike Woman’s Marathon as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada’s Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.

Have you ever had one of those friends who finish your sentence or better yet do something before you can even ask them because they just know? Many people have accused my friend Gwyn and I of sharing a brain (which we jokingly call Beckwyn). We can be countries apart and still end up with the same clothes….we even seem to share “energy highs and energy lows”.

Now picture this you are out of the country for work and the one and only time your phone works in that country is when your best friend phones you to tell you the devastating news that her mother has Leukemia. You want to be there to reassure her it will be alright but have no way of getting back to her. That was me just over a year ago. Since then her family has stood bravely as their mother sought treatment for her condition, Gwyn even ran a marathon with TNT in the fall in honour of her mother (Gwyn and her mother are in the photo above). Through her mom’s battle and Gwyn’s run last year I have been inspired to be apart of this amazing society.

I’m completing this event in honour of my best friend's mother, Bernadette, whom is currently battling Chronic Mylogenous Leukemia (CML).

I plan on surprising her mother with my plan to run the Nike Woman’s Marathon in her honour after I have all of the money raised. Please help me reach this goal and support an amazing cause. Your generous donation will not only help Bernadette, but millions of others that are affect by blood cancers.

These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
