For more info visit www.myclimbforcause.comHelp prevent water borne diseases, relieve children from arduous journeys to collect water and ensure a safe water supply is available year-round.Clean WaterThere are simple solutions to keeping clean and healthy: safe drinking water and proper sanitation facilities. But in Tanzania, these vital resources are often difficult to access. That is why approximately 26,500 Tanzanians - including 18,500 children under five - die each year from diarrhea. Without knowledge about hygienic behaviour and quality water sources, children and their families are at high risk of getting sick, stifling their opportunities to go to school, earn an income, and overcome extreme poverty.
Plan is working with the Global Sanitation Fund, Tanzanian government departments, and community members to improve sanitation and hygiene in 205 villages. Families will learn about the dangers of open defecation and affordable latrine options. Education on hygiene and health will be disseminated through media, teachers, community groups, health centres, public performances, and community leaders and elders. Children will also be involved in raising awareness through school sanitation clubs. To increase access to sanitation facilities and services, sanitation centres will be established, and local artisans will be trained on latrine construction.
