This June, we will begin an adventure most people we know would only dream about doing. We are going to ride our bicycles across this wonderful country. On June 18th with the back wheels of our bicycles touching the Pacific Ocean near Victoria, B.C we will attempt to complete our ride across Canada by October 20th, 2012; with the help of a few ferries of course.

Riding across Canada is no easy feat and we realize that dementia is no easy feat either. We’ve both seen the effects of dementia first hand through each of our families, grandparents in particular. Marcel’s grandmother suffered from Alzheimer’s disease before she passed away and April’s grandmother is currently suffering from it. Watching your loved ones be mentally taken from you is such a difficult and paralyzing experience. You cannot make it stop or go away, you can only stand by and be as helpful, supportive and loving as possible.

Throughout our journey we will make our own memories together as we are riding and with the hospitable Canadians we encounter in the towns along the way. We ask that you support our ride and our cause by donating to Alzheimer’s research to ensure that your grandparents get to remember dancing with you at your wedding or holding their great grand child for the first time. We are making memories for lost memories!
