My Message
|
Hi Everyone,
Thank you very much for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. First, I want to share with you why I am CHOOSING to run for 42 kilometres (in a row) in the 2013 Boston Marathon on April 15th.
In August of 2011, we lost a very special friend in Dave Randall. He was my father's best friend and more of a close uncle (and outstanding friend) to my brother and me. One of Dave's favorite places in the world was Boston. He was a huge Red Sox fan and New England is home to numerous friends Dave had made over the years.
Now, with the help of Dave's wife Brenda and daughter Lindsay, I am trying to raise money for Habitat for Humanity which was a big part of Dave's life. As General Manager of the Saint Mary's Huskies football team, Dave and his crew would always contribute to Habitat's mission by helping build houses for families in need.
I have decided to dedicate this training, fundraising effort and race to a very special friend who will never be forgotten - Mr. Dave Randall. Due to the overwhelming support in the first two days, I have decided to increase my goal to $5,000. Please help us exceed this new goal!
Thank you very much! T.J.
From Habitat For Humanity:
Amazing things happen to people when you address them. They become healthier, happier and better equipped to face life’s challenges and seize its opportunities. Unfortunately, over 1.5 million Canadians and well over 1 billion families around the world are living today in substandard housing and having to make unthinkable and unjust choices between necessities of life such as food, electricity and childcare on the one hand, and the high price for shelter on the other. Addressing the issue of affordable housing and giving people a place to call home is not just an act of charity or generosity. It’s a strategic investment in our society. For what we don’t spend on safe decent housing today, we will spend several times over in the future on education, health care, correctional institutions and rebuilding weakened communities.
