I was a National Rider in 2009 and found the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride to be an incredible and life-changing event. The experience was not something I could simply walk away from and I am excited to be a National Rider again this year.

The ambassador children I met along the way that are living with and beyond cancer continue to be such an inspiration! They accepted the sometimes unimaginable consequences of cancer and cancer survivorship with what I can only describe as dignity and grace. They were not resentful or angry, though as adults we might expect them to be. They certainly had not given up. They had maturity and wisdom beyond their years, and still somehow maintained the optimism and innocence of children.

Knowing how much good our efforts do for those children, their families, and children’s cancer charities in Canada is very fulfilling. It is very important to me to know that 100% of receiptable donations collected on my behalf will go directly to those charities.

There is still a need. Over 1700 children in Canada are diagnosed with cancer each year, and over 10000 children and their families live with and beyond this disease, but we can make a difference.
