My Message
Racing to Save Lives

Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

I am training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada’s Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I’m completing this event in honor of my dear friend Sabrina Leblond-Murphy, as well as all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLSC’s mission.
I hope you’ll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!

Last night was the kick-off party downtown. I was a little shy going alone but the Team spirit was omnipresent. An ice-breaker activity lead me to meet a couple who are also in this in Sabrina's honour (so many people love that girl that it came as no real surprise!).
Only a week and a half left before the Ottawa Half and my body is tired and aching from all the training. This makes it hard to imagine I'll be doing it all over again this summer but this time it will not only be to satisfy my passion for running, but in honour of Sabrina so double the satisfaction!

I'm only one week into the fundraising and am deeply touched by everyone's generosity and kind words. I really feel like I'm not in it alone. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all who have sponsored me to date!
As for the training aspect, I'm officially in recovery mode. As most of you know, I was training for the Ottawa Half-Marathon. Yesterday, my friend and I crossed the finish line hand in hand and still on our feet. It's time to lick my wounds before jumping into a training program again. Not to worry, I won't slack for long!

As you may have noticed, I have changed events. Further to doctor's orders to not run for six weeks (stress fracture and torn muscle), I decided to join Team in Training for the half-marathon in San Francisco, which is in October rather than here in Montreal (in September). My body agrees with the doctor, giving me a clear message not to run. I am, however, getting well acquainted with the bicycle seat. Let's hope six weeks go by fast!

Wow, I am without words. Country Kicks Cancer took place last night at Cafe Campus and the place was packed with friends and strangers alike all there to support this great cause. I so don't feel alone in this journey. What an amazing feeling. Thanks.

Another successful fundraiser for the books! Last night's Raising Dough for Cancer baking class sure made a lot of bread for the cause. I can't thank Appetite for Books, Marc-Andre Cyr, Vanessa Laberge, Harper Collins, Philippe Dandurand Wines, Les Douceurs du Marché and the participants enough. That was way too much fun!

Training is going great. I'm definitely getting the miles in and am injury-free to date! Could that be the finish line I see up ahead?

We did it! We really did it. We raised over $10,000 towards cancer research!!

Time for me to show that I have held up my end of the bargain. In less than two days, I will join the rest of the TNT group on a plane for San Francisco. I am so nervous about the number of people that will be there, the famous San Fran hills, and the sheer emotion of working so hard for something and then finally crossing that finish line. And yet, these are the same things that excite me. I can't wait to tell you all about it.

The trip to San Francisco was definitely an experience I won't soon forget. I am proud to report that there were 4,000 Team in Training participants in this event, and we raised over $14 million. Mind blowing. The race was tough, but nothing compared to the battle that Sabrina and so many others have faced. The people yelling "Go Sabrina" (I had Sabrina's name on the front and back of my singlet) definitely made the 21.1 km easier. For all my running friends out there, I crossed the finish line in 1:59:03. Thank you for joining me on this incredible journey.
