My Message
The fight against Alzheimer’s is important to me since I have a number of family and friends who are personally struggling with the disease. Alzheimer’s is a tragic and debilitating illness that deeply affects the loved ones of those suffering, as well as the patients themselves. My Grandmother Donna Ayres was diagnosed a few years ago with dementia and Sundowners Syndrome, though her disease has progressed quickly, she is still surrounded by family and currently living on Vancouver Island. It is a motivating fact that we could all develop Alzheimer’s or dementia in one way or another, at any stage of our lives. The challenge of the 2015 Ascent for Alzheimer’s hike on Mt. Kilimanjaro is a truly exciting opportunity for me to take direct and meaningful action as a critical team member supporting the cause for research and cure. I am proud to be a part of the event and to demonstrate being a positive role model for my son. And, it’s a great chance for me to put a giant check mark next to one of my own “bucket list” items. I am confident and eager to conquer this as a community member who is able to make a difference!

As an active and adventurous forty-something Mom, I enjoy most physical activity (aside from running). I currently live in the City of Edmonton with my amazing teenaged son Wolfe, and my hardworking fiancé Michael. However, I was born in Victoria, B.C. and I grew up beach combing, and helping make fresh clam chowder on the beach! As a family we appreciate outdoor activities and pursuits that get the adrenalin going and keep us fit and healthy. We have enjoyed the ability to travel the last few years to beautiful parts of the world. Through our travels it has taught us to appreciate what we have and the importance to give back.

Being chosen to join the Ascent team and to raise funds and awareness for this devastating disease provides more than an opportunity for an adventure of a life time! I look forward to committing my time, energy and funds to meet and beat this challenge! I hope that you, the reader, choose to help me meet my goal of raising $10,000 for the Alzheimer Society of B.C. and let’s beat this disease together!

Sincerely,

Kris Clarke
