I am perhaps learning this a little late in life: One generally can't achieve great things without support - a community of like-minded people who will encourage you to push past your perceived limits. I have been running half-marathons for a few years now. I discovered hiking last year by helping a faraway Peruvian community better care for some of its orphans. Ironically, despite my loves of running and hiking, I HATE hills. So why have I registered for my second trail run, which involves running up a rather long and steep hill? To give back to the community that is helping me realize my limits are all in my head.
I am training to participate in the Ultimate XC 11.5 km trail run (and aiming to improve my time) to raise money for Team in Training, part of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. To be more precise, I’m completing this event in honour of Vanessa, a young member of the FitU community who lives with a blood disease. I am asking you, dear members of my close and extended community of supporters to help me help Vanessa by sponsoring me for this exciting challenge!
