My Message
When the opportunity to join the Ascent for Alzheimer’s 2014 Team arose, we jumped at the chance. Going to Africa and hiking Kilimanjaro have been on our ‘bucket list’ for many years. To be able to participate in this trek to support Alzheimer’s Awareness and Research holds a personal and special significance for both of us. In December 2012 our father, Harold, passed away from complications relating to this devastating disease. Our dad was a person who also loved a good adventure. He hiked Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, in 2002 when he was 71 years old. This feat was an inspiration to us. Little did we know, at that time, that his most profound challenge and the one that would call his family to action, lay ahead. It is our hope that our participation in this event will perpetuate the legacy of inspiration and hope for our own children. Our dad’s journey was a difficult one. Since his passing, more and more friends have come forward to share their stories about family members who have also been diagnosed with this disease. We have committed to raising a minimum of $20,000 to contribute to the Alzheimer’s Society. With your help, we hope to achieve this goal. Thank you so much for your support.
