We are continuing to use the “ONEpossible” annual fundraising effort, not only to raise funds and awareness for The Progeria Research Foundation (PRF), but also to update how Cam is doing. Be sure to watch the slide show of Cam by clicking on the” video” button above! Cameron (Cam) Howard, our grandson who has Progeria, is five years old. Physically, Cam has grown taller but still remains very small compared to his peers. Mentally, Cam, like many Progeria kids, is very smart. He will enter Kindergarten this coming fall. This year has been both good and bad for Cam. The bad is that this spring while playing indoor hockey at home, his left leg came out of his hip socket and Cam had to go to the hospital to have it reinserted. He came through the procedure successfully and has to wear a hip/leg brace for awhile. Much to the concern of his parents, he is still very active even with the brace! The joint dislocation is a common occurrence with Progeria kids and we all hope it doesn’t become a chronic condition. On the good side, Cam has fallen in love with professional sports by watching his favorite teams, remembering players and stats, and copying player’s moves. His first love is hockey and his favorite team is the Pittsburgh Penguins. His family was invited to attend a Penguins game by owner Mario Lemieux; a moment that Cam will never forget! On the medical front, Cam continues in the triple drug trial and is slated to join a new trial as soon as it's approved. The efforts of PRF are the key for Cameron in having a normal life and hope for a complete cure. This year alone PRF has doubled its research efforts as new researchers and funds are drawn to PRF.
