Hello there! As some of you may know, I have recently been diagnosed with Lupus, Sjogren's Syndrome and Hypothyroidism. The latter two diseases being a direct result of my having Lupus. For anyone who has known me for a while knows that I am not the type of person who can just wait around for something to happen as evident in my involvement with Breast Cancer causes when my mother was diagnosed and which I am proud to say has recently been given the "clear" that she is now a Survivor. It is only estimated that 1.5 million Americans and 5 million people worldwide have Lupus. 41,000 are estimated for the New York area. Those numbers seem small, but as one who has joined the ranks of the statistics it seems like an all encompassing world. Unfortunately at this time, there is no cure. I am proud to be a part of the inaugural year for the walk to raise funds for the Lupus Foundation of America here in the New York Area. Their mission is to improve the diagnosis and treatment of lupus, support individuals and families affected by the disease, increase awareness of lupus among health professions and the public, and find the causes and cure. The proceeds for this walk will stay in the New York Area. I figure that I should start investing in my future, especially for the day when I or family members will need the services of the Lupus Foundation of America.
