My Message
We are inviting you to be part of making a difference in the lives of thousands of people and their families who are affected by dementia. For the past four years, volunteers and sponsors have participated in the Scotiabank Hockey for Alzheimer’s tournament which benefits the Alzheimer Society of BC. This year will mark the first All-Women team participating in the Tournament - “Gordie’s Angels” in honour of Gordie Howe. The Tournament will be held November 13 to 15th at Planet Ice in Delta.
Since joining this cause, we’ve learned quite a bit about the disease and its impact.
• More than 70,000 people live with dementia in BC
• 72% of people living with Alzheimer’s disease are women
• 70% of primary caregivers who access the Alzheimer Society of BC support programs and services are women
Not only is being a direct descendent of someone with Alzheimer’s a risk factor, but there are also increased odds for women in general. We have a unique opportunity to participate in this event as a group of women. We want to come together as women helping women: grandmothers, mothers and daughters. Our goal is to raise funds that will be invested to support women impacted by dementia – as natural caregivers we hope your company will join us. In addition to exposing and educating our communities about this disease, this event teams up celebrated NHL Alumni with local players of diverse skill levels, ages and backgrounds.
As a hockey loving woman in Canada this is a rare opportunity – a dream come true to play with some of the NHL’s elite players and to help put Alzheimer’s on ice. We’re hoping to make this dream come true and you can help us move from dream to reality.
