My Message
Taku and I are taking on a 3000 km canoe journey through the wilds of Manitoba and Ontario, linking some of the greatest wilderness tripping areas in the world into one grand trip. En route we'll pass through places like Woodland Caribou Park, Wabakimi, The Albany River, the Missinnaibi river, Temagami, and French River to name a few. The expedition will take around 80 days, leaving Winnipeg in late June and finishing at my cottage near Parry Sound in mid-September. The massive roadless area we pass through comprises a significant chunk of the Canada's Boreal forest. The Boreal is the world's biggest carbon absorbing and storing bank- absolutely vital for keeping atmospheric carbon in check, with international implications if it is not protected. It also provides crucial habitat for hundreds of plant and animal species. The Boreal is currently under threat from logging and mining so we'd like to raise funds through CPAWS to protect the whole area and keep it wild. MEC will match any donations you make and put it toward CPAWS campaigns currently going in in the area. We will be filming our journey as well as photographing and writing it up for magazine publication so we'll have lots to share upon completion.
